Old Issue, Newish Report

I have posted about this very issue several times.  Paid maternity/paternity leave.  A recent post on the Juggle for reference.  I don’t have the answers and I am certanly not saying we need ANOTHER government funded program – believe me.  However,  I wish there was a solution.  Some excerpts from the report:

Governments in 177 nations give paid leave to new mothers; 74 do the same for new fathers. The U.S. does neither; a 1993 federal mandate provides up to 12 weeks’ unpaid family leave, but extends to only about half the workforce. The study cites some fundamental benefits from providing paid leave, including extending breastfeeding.
