More on Leave…
I am a bit behind on my blog reading, but I read this post from last week this morning and I had to link to it. It’s a post from Diane Brady on BusinessWeek’s Working Parent blog focused on the paternity benefits in Canada. Interestingly enough, even fathers get PAID time off (government standard). Check out the post for details. The most interesting part of the post points to the Canadian government’s SURPLUS. Yes, SURPLUS and they can still afford to offer paid benefits to both mothers and fathers. Amazing. Simply amazing. Perhaps if our government took parenting more seriously we wouldn’t have so many issues, in our schools and otherwise. Huh. Just a thought.

I Have Heard it ALL!
Ok, this is just enough. I will not post about the Spitzer situation anymore – it’s overdone now. He is wrong, everyone knows that. I was reading some industry news today on CNET.com and came across this article from yesterday, talking about a Web site that helps married people find dates. What was that? Yes, you heard right. The NPR story is here. This is insane to me – it really is. I know I live in NH and have been called naive all my life, but THIS? Are you kidding me?!!?!?

Eliot Spitzer, my opinion
I realize that everyone has an opinion, but what the heck, that is what blogs are for. This Eliot Spitzer thing is a bit over the top. I am not THAT naive, I know things go on, I do. However, for the love of God, is this really necessary? Why do men do this? And yes, I did say men. The fraction of women “using” male prostitues is much lower, so yes, I am talking about men here. I mean, are men THAT BORED that they need to PAY someone? Seriously. Because if that is the case, I can certainly provide a list of things that men can do to occupy their time that are LEGAL and productive all at the same time.
Men – if any of you read, and by now I am not sure any do….how about starting with being nice to your wife? Instead of the $4300 you pay a prostitute, buy your wife a nice card for $2.99. Look at the savings! And if you are still bored, here are some other things you can do.

Wash the windows – inside and out

Wash the kitchen cabinets – inside and out

Clean the car (s) interiors

Wash down the crown molding
Still bored? Let me know. And if boredom isn’t the reason you are soliciting ILLEGAL activities and you are doing it because you WANT to, then you deserve to go to prison.

This Hit Home
All, if you read my blog regularly at all, please check out Penleope Trunks article from yesterday’s Boston Globe. Keep in mind, I originally saw this in hard copy – it was on the front page of the Career Section. Before I go into a complete tear, I will say up front that I can not argue her scientific points regarding a women’s fertility. Obviously your chances are better when you are younger.
That said, I can not believe I read this on the front page of the Career Section. I can not. This subhead sets of fire crackers in my very being:
Women eager to have children need to direct career drive toward mating
Really? Any particular industry open to this??? Last time I checked, you had to put in your time in order to get to a salary comfortable enough to take a pay cut to leave and go have a child. I will blog on this more later today.
