Work and Customer Service

Flexibility.  Working from home.  Customer service.  What does it all mean?  Well, for starters, check out this post on Fast Company that references a recent survey.  It basically says that achieving a work-life balance does not have to hurt customer service.

Another good stat.  Gallup’s annucal Work and Educatio survey finds that American workeders report spending an average of 46 minutes commuting to and from work on a typical day.  Never mind the gasoline costs.  Work from home!

What do you think is wrong?

Excellent post by David Pogue today.  He describes in detail the levels of “wrongness” in downloading music, etc.  All I have to say is wow.  Astounding.  And I guess it is generational, I don’t know.  I do know however, that “back in the day” my friends and I used to “tape” songs off the radio and make mixed tapes – and we didn’t think that was wrong.  So it will be interesting to see how this all shakes out over the next ten or so years.

Are We Happier?

I thought I read and posted about this very topic before, but I can’t remember.   The Job Satisfaction and Family Happiness survey proclaims that working women are happier – as are their mates.

Personally, I wouldn’t have it any other way.  And not just for financial reasons.  I value my own worth and what I bring into the workfore. I truly enjoy my job and kids or no kids, I would be doing the same thing.

I realize there are lots of arguments  out there against working Moms -and the old adage of “mothers should be home with their children” is still out there.  I get it.  But, as with everything else in life, everything is not for everyone.  So, do what works for you.

For me, it’s working.  Working in a field I am passionate about.  Does working work for you?

Only 47% of adults have “Googled” themselves?  Wow.  I find that shocking.  Perhaps because of the world I operate in on a daily basis.

P Skills?

During my lunchtime reading I often check out “On Balance” and there is a great post today.  I like Leslie’s list.  I have only been a parent for just over a year and I have to say that the only trait I possess on her list is the “desire to be a parent”.  Tough list.

Ever wonder…?

Why on earth every single piece of fruit bought in a typical grovery store has those little stickers that are nearly impossible to get off?  Each morning I make a juice and each morning I spend too much time prying those stickers off of my apples and sometimes pears.  Is it because the grocery clerks do not know the difference between a Granny Smith and a McIntosh or a Bosc or Bartlett?  I am happy to help educate.  Ok, that is my gripe for the day.  Onwards and upwards!

This is worth following - and not just because Dave is involved and he is cool (ok, he is an OLD colleague, but still cool), but because it’s needed.  Thanks for the post Shel.
